Ji Jing takes 53kg bronze in World Championships

China also picked up a medal in the womens 53 kilogram category thanks to Ji Jing, who was making her first appearance at the world Champinships.

The 24 year old had found a lot of success domestically this year, winning three gold medals at the Chinese championships in May, and would come in third on the big stage in Paris to take the bronze.

But she would not be able to overcome a World Record setting performance by Zulfiya Chinshanlo of Kazakhstan in the clean and jerk, a lift there of 130 kilograms, carrying her to the gold.

Chinese skater Wang Fei raced her way into the record books. She set a new Asian mark for the 1500 metres, crossing the line at 1 minute 58.37 seconds. It was 1-and-a-half seconds under the previous record time she set four years ago. South Korean Noh Seonyeong took second place. The bronze went to Japanese skater Kodaira Nao.
