Beckham leads Galaxy into MLS final

North Americas Major League Soccers top team, the star-studded L.A. Galaxy were hoping to book their place in the last four as they carried a 1-0 nothing aggregate lead into their second leg against the New York Red Bulls.

Thierry Henry wanted his New York team to pull out an upset. And the Red Bulls strike first --- four minutes into the game Luke Rodgers is sprung with a great through ball and he beats the keeper to make it 1-nothing. That makes it 1-1 on aggregate.

But David Beckham and the Galaxy would not be deterred, just before halftime L.A. are able to equalize as Mike Magee is able to redirect the Becks corner. Galaxy up 2-1 on aggregate.

Second half now and the Galaxy on the attack --- Beckham tries a shot from well out -- he calls for a handball, and doesnt get it, but he continues to play on when he is fouled by Roy Miller. What was Miller thinking? That leads to a penalty kick.

From there Landon Donovan takes to the spot and makes no mistake. 2-1 and 3-1 on aggregate. L.A. hold on and advance to the MLS Western Conference final. But after the match the focus was on David Beckham and his contract which runs out at the end of the season.

Chinese skater Wang Fei raced her way into the record books. She set a new Asian mark for the 1500 metres, crossing the line at 1 minute 58.37 seconds. It was 1-and-a-half seconds under the previous record time she set four years ago. South Korean Noh Seonyeong took second place. The bronze went to Japanese skater Kodaira Nao.
