The two teams lined up in the center circle before the match, to pay tribute to Gary Speed, the former Welsh coach that took his own life on Sunday. Speed made more than 700 appearances for Leeds United, Everton, Newcastle United in a career that spanned 22 seasons. Rio unveils 2016 Paralympic Games logo

Watch Video Play Video Rio de Janeiro has unveiled the logo for the 2016 Paralympic Games during the famous lighting ceremony of the city's floating Christmas tree. Saturday's presentation began with a dance and a video of paralympic athletes training, followed by a large sculpture of the logo. Shapes on the logo trace those of the famous Sugar Loaf hills. National short track championships open

Watch Video Play Video Chinas short track speed skaters took to the rink in the northeast city of Changchun as the National Short Track Championships got under way. Competitors from across the nation attended the four-day event, which will decide who qualifies for next years National Winter Games. Since those games are based on team events, only the top 8 provinces from this tournament will advance automatically. On Thursday, the local team led by national star Liang Wenhao, produced a solid performance. They won the mens team competition to earn 50 points. In the womens team event, skaters from Harbin, many of them also national team members, were the winners on day 1, finishing with 47 points. Contador in hearing over failed test

Watch Video Play Video After two previous attempts to clear his name, Alberto Contador is finally facing a hearing over a failed drug test. The 28-year-old Spaniard tested positive for the banned anabolic agent clenbuterol during the 2010 Tour de France. Contador will learn his fate at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland. The cyclist claims last years positive test happened because he ate contaminated meat. The Spanish cycling federation cleared him of any wrongdoing but the International Cycling Union and the World Anti-Doping Agency have both appealed the decision. The court hearing is scheduled to finish on Thursday, but a final decision will not be handed down for several weeks. Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby has been sidelined since the start of the year with problems related to concussion he suffered in January. Watch Video Play Video In the ongoing Pacific-Asia Curling Championships held in Nanjing, the host team China was facing a tough challenge from South Korea, a nation they lost to during last years championships. The Koreans were also able to score a win over China this year. Wang Bingyus rink was able to score three in the opening end and led 3-nothing. The South Korean rink was able to take advantage of some poor shots and clawback and held a 5-3 lead after the fifth end. The Chinese foursome would retake the lead in the 6th end, scoring three thanks to a nice take out in the frame. Chinas Wang Bingyu would add to the total in and go on to a 9-7 victory. La Galaxy beat Houston Dynamo 1-0

Englishman David Beckham made good on a promise to help bring a Major League Soccer title to the Los Angeles Galaxy. The Galaxy played the Houston Dynamo for the MLS crown, and import duo Beckham and Robbie Keane gave the captain Landon Donovan the honor of scoring the only goal of the match, in the 72nd minute. The Galaxy claimed its first championship since 2005, and third in the past decade, and the victory successfully validated the franchise's lucrative investment. The Second Youth Olympic Games release its slogan

Organizers for the Second Youth Olympic Games announced the slogan "Share the games, Share Our Dreams" in a Slogan Unveiling Ceremony. The motto invokes the meaning of the Olympic spirit, and a gathering of encouragement, friendship and development. The Chinese Olympic Committee introduced the slogan as a unique brand of the Youth Olympic Games, as well as the cultural essence of the host city of Nanjing. "Share the games, Share Our Dreams" The Youth Games Organization began collecting slogan ideas from around the world in October of last year. The Nanjing Youth Olympic Games asked the public to choose three slogans from six candidates.
