Rehearsal staged for Para Games opening ceremony

The first rehearsal of the opening ceremony of the Guangzhou Asian Para Games has been staged. Unlike the Games staged two weeks ago, the opening night will not focus on high tech performances, rather, emotion. A feature that will display disabled performers' and athletes' love for life and society.


'Beautiful world' is the theme and has four chapters. The first three parts tell stories of deaf, blind and body disabled people living in the beautiful world around them. However, The last chapter will see the flame being lit, but the details of how and what will take place are being kept a firmly guarded secret. All we do know is that 300 mothers of competing athletes will sing along with their children.


Asian Para Games official Ning Xiaozhou said, 'The mothers of the disabled athletes from 41 countries and regions and the mothers represent Guangdong's form a team. The team will first appeared on the platform to welcome their children.'

Watch Video Play Video A long-awaited moment for China at the Asian Winter Games. It happened during a gold medal run in the women's 1500 meters speed skating event. Chinese skater Wang Fei raced her way into the record books. She set a new Asian mark for the 1500 metres, crossing the line at 1 minute 58.37 seconds. It was 1-and-a-half seconds under the previous record time she set four years ago. South Korean Noh Seonyeong took second place. The bronze went to Japanese skater Kodaira Nao.
