Asian Para Games village opens
With the Para Games set to begin on the 12th, preparation work in Guangzhou is coming to a close. Today, the Para Games Village opened its doors to team China...and soon, the rest of Asia.
The Secretary of the Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Zhang Guangning declared the Asian Para Games Para Village open...as it is now officially ready to welcome athletes from around Asia.
China became the first nation to enter the village, as the national flag flew high.
China will field 448 athletes to participate in 19 sports. The team's director says winning...just part of the experience for those taking part.
Feng Jianzhong, Head of Chinese Delegation, said, 'The athletes can have the opportunity to join friends from around Asia to take part in the games and enjoy the happiness brought on by the competitions, which is our top agenda. It is a good place where they can display their spirit very well.'
The Asian Games village closed four days ago, and was renovated to become the Para Games village, ensuring the disabled at the event had no obstacles.
Volunteers and working staff have also been trained to meet the para games' serving standards.
Kong Maosheng, Deputy director pf Para Games Sports Department, said, 'The Para Games is different from the previous Asian Games, and volunteers need to know what to say and how to behave to respect the athletes.'
With the village opens, athletes can train in 6 stadiums which have passed accessibility standards to undergo final preparations for the games.
