Asian Para Games torch relay continues

The flame of the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games continues its journey to the opening ceremony. The relay, heading out today from the Guangzhou Flower Exposition in the host city.


Ninety torchbearers took part in the 7.76km relay from the Guangzhou Flower Exposition to Bai-e-tan square. Zhang Manyu was the first torchbearer. She was named the Model Disabled Person of Guangdong in 2009.


Lei Sheng, a member of China's men's fencing foil team was the second bearer, Lei, the runner-up at the World Championship, has recently been named World No.1. A number of disabled carriers, took their leg without the aid of the volunteers and were cheered on and followed by the crowd in attendance.


The last torchbearer was Xia Shiying, the youngest person to win three golds at the Guangzhou Asian Games. She was the Dragon Boat cadence drummer of China's womens team. The torch relay will continue at Nansha Olympic square on Thursday.
