The most decorated Winter Olympic athlete in Chinese history has taken her first steps towards re-joining the National Speed Skating Team.
Four-time Olympic champion Wang Meng has returned to to her home province of Heilongjiang to practice with her former provincial team after being expelled from the national side after a drunken brawl last month.
Wang gave a public apology for her role in the incident in which team members and coaches were fighting each other...Wang sustained injuries to both hands but showed no ill effects as she turned up to train with her former coach Yin Min.
Joining Wang on the ice was Liu Xianwei...who was also expelled from the national team.
It was a trip down memory lane for Wang, going back to the place where she trained prior to her first Olympic gold in the 500m at the 2006 Turin Olympics.
National team coach Li Yan says she hopes Wang works her way back into the Chinese team.
Li Yan, Head Coach, National Short-track Speed Skating Team, said, "She has started training at the provincial team. She should have a new start. Actually all of us are having a new start, including the skaters of the National team. We all feel sad after the incident, and are training in different places. But, we hope to take as little time as possible before a new start. I hope Wang Meng can hold on, and have the chance to compete for her country, compete for her own dreams."
