World Athletics Cham'ship: China's Li wins discus gold

China won it's first gold of the world's in the women's discus throw on Sunday as veteran Li Yanfeng maintained the top form she's been displaying all season.

Li's season best throw heading into the event was 67.98 meters. She ranked second in the preliminaries, her main rival, Nadine Mueller of Germany, with a slightly better throw. Li's second attempt was 66.52 meters, exceeded Mueller's by almost half a meter. No one would match it. So, the 32-year-old Chinese earned her first world championship title with a toss of 66.52 meters. Mueller takes silver, and Cuba's Yarelis Barrios claims bronze.

Li Yanfeng said, "I am extremely satisfied with my performance today. Because I think it is really hard to bring my best form into the competition in such a big event."

Ethopia's jeilan wins men's 10,000m

A thrilling conclusion to the men's 10,000 meters as Ibrahim Jeilan of Ethiopia chases down Mo Farah of Great Britain in the final stretch.

Farah, the European 5,000 and 10,000 champion, had surged ahead with more than a lap to go, but Jeilan and Ethiopian teammate Imane Merga stayed with him.

Jeilan then took the lead halfway down the final straight to claim gold in 27 minutes, 13.81 seconds. Farah was second and Merga third.

USA's Reese clai! ms women 's long jump title

In the women's long jump, American Brittney Reese defended her title, beating Olga Kucherenko of Russia and Ineta Radevica of Latvia.

With an opening jump of 6.82 meters, she gave the United States their first gold medal of the competition. Kucherenko jumped 6.77 meters and European champion Radevica was only 0.01 meters behind for bronze in a tight field.

Russia's Borchin defends title in men's 20km walk

And Russia's Valeriy Borchin retained his grip on the major titles in the 20km walk with a runaway victory, well a walkaway victory, to successfully defend his crown at the world championships on Sunday.

His compatriot Vladimir Kanaykin was next for silver, while Luis Fernando Lopez celebrated with a bronze medal performance to give Columbia its first world championship medal.

China's Wang Zhen finished 4th.

Chinese skater Wang Fei raced her way into the record books. She set a new Asian mark for the 1500 metres, crossing the line at 1 minute 58.37 seconds.
