Carson Yeung charged with money laundering

Birmingham City owner Carson Yeung appeared at the Wan Chai District Court in Hong Kong on Tuesday charged with five counts of money laundering involving more than 720 million Hong Kong dollars or 92 million US dollars.
The colourful Hong Kong businessman was greeted by a typical media scrum as he entered the court house. Yeung bought the former Premier League club Birmingham city in October 2009 with a takeover bid of 81 and a half million British pounds, equal to 130-million US dollars. The clubs only highlight since then came this year, when the side won the 2011 Carling Club defeating Arsenal 2-1 in the final.
His lawyer, Clive Grossman, asked the court's permission to allow his client to return to England to attend to matters relating to the football club, but the judge granted him a one-time exception from September 15 to 19. Yeung did not enter a plea in court nor did he speak to the media and his money laundering trial is expected to continue early next year.
