Shining as always: Liu Xiang awarded silver at 110m hurdles

Watch Video Play Video It may not have been the colour he wanted or perhaps, even deserved, but China's Liu Xiang has been awarded his silver medal from a controversial final of the men's 110m hurdles at the Daegu World Championships. Cuban world record holder Dayron Robles crossed the finish line in first on Monday evening, but was disqualified for impeding Liu over the final two hurdles. Robles, handing victory in one of the most anticipated races of the meet to American Jason Richardson. Liu who came in third was elevated to the silver, while Britain's Andrew Turner moved into the medals and took the bronze. Liu, so close to claiming the title in his first appearance at a World championship since 2007, but he has answered any lingering questions regarding his fitness and should now have a little extra motivation heading into next year's London Olympics. Carson Yeung charged with money laundering

Watch Video Play Video Birmingham City owner Carson Yeung appeared at the Wan Chai District Court in Hong Kong on Tuesday charged with five counts of money laundering involving more than 720 million Hong Kong dollars or 92 million US dollars. The colourful Hong Kong businessman was greeted by a typical media scrum as he entered the court house. Yeung bought the former Premier League club Birmingham city in October 2009 with a takeover bid of 81 and a half million British pounds, equal to 130-million US dollars. The clubs only highlight since then came this year, when the side won the 2011 Carling Club defeating Arsenal 2-1 in the final. His lawyer, Clive Grossman, asked the court's permission to allow his client to return to England to attend to matters relating to the football club, but the judge granted him a one-time exception from September 15 to 19. World Athletics Cham'ship: China's Li wins discus gold

China won it's first gold of the world's in the women's discus throw on Sunday as veteran Li Yanfeng maintained the top form she's been displaying all season. Li's season best throw heading into the event was 67.98 meters. She ranked second in the preliminaries, her main rival, Nadine Mueller of Germany, with a slightly better throw. Li's second attempt was 66.52 meters, exceeded Mueller's by almost half a meter. No one would match it. So, the 32-year-old Chinese earned her first world championship title with a toss of 66.52 meters. Mueller takes silver, and Cuba's Yarelis Barrios claims bronze. Li Yanfeng said, "I am extremely satisfied with my performance today. Because I think it is really hard to bring my best form into the competition in such a big event." Hurricane Irene, wreaking havoc on the weekend Major League Baseball sked, however, the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics were just able to beat the storm and get in their doubleheader on Saturday. The Red Sox, taking the opener 9-3 and had a chance to move three up on the idle New York Yankees in the AL East with a win in the second. Four-time Olympic champion Wang Meng has returned to to her home province of Heilongjiang to practice with her former provincial team after being expelled from the national side after a drunken brawl last month. Wang gave a public apology for her role in the incident in which team members and coaches were fighting each other...Wang sustained injuries to both hands but showed no ill effects as she turned up to train with her former coach Yin Min. Watch Video Play Video The World Athletics Championships are set for the end of the month in Daegu. This is the last major event before the London 2012 Games and Great Britain has hopes for success. With the London Olympics now less than 12 months away, the pressure to deliver has never been higher for British athletes. The UK Athletics chief believes his charges are in top form and has set a goal for the world championships. Charles Van Commenee, UK Athletics Chief said, "We've set a target of seven medals including one gold at least. We had six in Berlin. The target is eight for London so we should be close to seven so that we are en route for London." Charles Van Commenee Current World and European heptathlete champion Jessica Ennis will be one of the British medal hopes.
