And in the women's draw, three-time US Open winner Serena Williams reached the last four with ease. She beat Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets.

Williams' semi-final opponent will be world number one Caroline Wozniacki, the 21-year-old Dane edged out Germany's Andrea Petkovic 6-1, 7-6 to book her place. She will have to over come Serena to carry on her hunt for her first ever grand slam winner.

Watch Video Play Video A long-awaited moment for China at the Asian Winter Games. It happened during a gold medal run in the women's 1500 meters speed skating event. Chinese skater Wang Fei raced her way into the record books. She set a new Asian mark for the 1500 metres, crossing the line at 1 minute 58.37 seconds. It was 1-and-a-half seconds under the previous record time she set four years ago. South Korean Noh Seonyeong took second place. The bronze went to Japanese skater Kodaira Nao.
