China sent a total of 58 elite track & field athletes to Daegu to compete with the world's best. CCTV reporter Wu Haojun takes a closer look at their performance in 9 days of fierce competition.

Decades of hard work on the field, a couple of minutes' fame on the podiu - This is the story of Chinese discus thrower Li Yanfeng. The 32- year-old veteran has finally achieved her dream of winning a world championship, after an uphill battle of 17 years.

The late boomer finished only ninth and seventh respectively in Athens and Beijing Olympics. But on this night, she decided to strike first, throwing a 66.52 on just her second try. And that performance proved enough to wrap up the whole evening.

Li Yanfeng said, "I know it's very difficult to tune your body to its best condition in a world class competition like this. But I am happy I was able to do that. And I had been dreaming about being able to carry the national flag onto the field. This dream has come true."

A long overdue place at the medals podium for Liu Xiang - Aiming for a gold, but a silver is still nice for the champion hurdler's first major competition since a forfeit due to injury at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

But even the silver came with drama. Liu and world record holder Robles were almost running neck to neck until Roble's right trailing hand hit on Liu's left hand. But Liu handled the unfortunate event in a world-class manner.

Liu Xiang said, "Competition is always full of surprises. He made contact with me a couple of times and I lost my balance. But I can't blame Daryn Robles. This is competition and we should just enjoy the game."

Celebration is well deserved. The unofficial goal of winning 2 to 3 medals has been met at this year's IAAF. But many of the athletes will have to delve right back into even harder training for the upcoming London Olympics.
