China's Peng Shuai has advanced to round three of the US Open with a thrashing of Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria.
Unusually, Peng Shuai got off to a flying start. Facing Pironkova, Peng was strong at the baseline and payed more attention than usual to her tactics at the net. Peng dominated the match, from all over the court, leaving her opponent without any answers. Pironkova is ranked 50th in the world and made the last four at Wimbledon 2010, and the quarter finals this year.
But it seems her strength is grass, failing to perform on other surfaces. So throughout the match Peng proved to strong for the Bulgarian taking the first set 6-2. In the second set, Pironkova started to change her tactics, but to no avail. Everything Pironkova tried, Peng Shuai countered and it seemed the harder she tried, the more mistakes she made.
Peng wrapped up the second set 6-4 to advance to the last 32, the stage she reached at last year's Open. Her next opponent will be Germany's Julia Goerges next.
