Yao Ming joined the Houston Rockets on an environmental awareness drive Friday. The injured Chinese center surprised everyone by walking without his protective boot at the event.

The Rockets turned to a green color scheme to fit the environmental theme, promoting the idea of recycling electronic products in the community.

People dropped-off their abandoned devices and electric parts for recycling. Yao brought some NBA personal star power to the happening.

Watch Video Play Video A long-awaited moment for China at the Asian Winter Games. It happened during a gold medal run in the women's 1500 meters speed skating event. Chinese skater Wang Fei raced her way into the record books. She set a new Asian mark for the 1500 metres, crossing the line at 1 minute 58.37 seconds. It was 1-and-a-half seconds under the previous record time she set four years ago. South Korean Noh Seonyeong took second place. The bronze went to Japanese skater Kodaira Nao.
