Lakers top Hornets 98-80, win series 4-2

Watch Video Play Video We begin with the NBA playoffs and a chance for the L-A Lakers to advance to the second round. The Lakers took a 3-2 series lead into New Orleans. Could the Hornets deliver another sensational game against the defending NBA champs? There were no worries about Kobe Bryant's ability in game 6. He hit a trademark turnaround jumper to put LA on top. Jarrett Jack danced his way in for a floater. New Orleans played close as the game went into the second quarter. Pau Gasol tallied 16 for the Lakers. The Spaniard drained a jumper that gave L-A an 8 point lead midway through the third. But Kobe played the starring role. He scored 24 on the night. Bryant's triple stretched the Lakers cushion to double digits. And Lamar Odom's trip to the rim put the Lakers up by 20. The Hornets suffered a disastrous second half against Los Angeles. Santos beat America 1-0 in Copa Libertadores

Watch Video Play Video The Copa Libertadores, South America's most prestigious club tournament has entered the round of 16. Wednesday night saw Brazilian giants Santos hosting Mexico's Club America in the first leg of their tie. First half: The Mexican side managed a shot on target near the half-hour mark. Andres Olivera let fly following a long boot upfield but Santos 'keeper Rafael pushed the ball away for a corner. The Brazilian hosts would score seven minutes before half-time. Neymar carried the ball forward before picking out Paulo Henrique Ganso for a sweet left-foot finish. Second half: This speculative strike almost brought Club America level in the second half - Rafael was, though, able to breathe a sigh of relief after the ball struck the frame of the goal. Watch Video Play Video In Los Angeles, the home team Lakers pushed the New Orleans Hornets to the brink of playoff elimination, moving ahead 3-2 in the series. Kobe Bryant scored 19 points and threw down two stirring dunks despite a sprained ankle. Bryant turned down an MRI test after Sunday's injury and went in the game with plenty of doubt. It was the Hornets who started strongly to lead by nine. Chris Paul took 20 points and 12 assists for a double-double. It wasn't until 7 minutes into the second quarter that Kobe marked his first score, but then he took over the stage. First, on receiving a floor bounce from Paul Casol, Kobe dodged Emeka Okafor's defensive elevation for a blasting dunk that cleared away all the doubts, proving even in pain he can still fly. Nadal wins Barcelona Open

Watch Video Play Video World number one Rafael Nadal went after his sixth Barcelona Open title in seven years. He met Spanish compatriot David Ferrer in Sunday's final. Nadal got down to business early. He broke serve three times in the opening set, as Ferrer kept missing first serve opportunites. Nadal scored off his own serve on set point and took the opener 6-2. Ferrer went 2-games down in the second set before rallying with a forehand to the corner. He took the next four games and opened up a 4-2 lead. But Nadal was too tough. He broke the Ferrer serve again and then levelled the scoreline before collecting his sixth break of the match. Nadal wins Barcelona Open Ferrer hit a backhand wide and Nadal wrapped up the victory in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Bulls defeat Pacers 88-84 for 3-0 lead

Watch Video Play Video The Chicago Bulls have defeated the Indiana Pacers 88-84 in Indianapolis to take a 3-0 series lead in their playoff series. The home side started well as Paul George dunked to put his side 38-33 up with 3 minutes left in the third quarter. The Pacers held their advantage till the 4th quarter with Dahntay Jones finger roll layup shot. It was a 68-65 game. But Carlos Boozer's dunk shot put his side up 82-78. The Pacers reply was immediate a Danny Granger step back jump shot to draw the game at 84-all with 1 minute 42 left. Derrick Rose, as usual, did his part. He answered a challenge from McLaren's Lewis Hamilton on his final flying lap around the Sepang circuit. Hamilton had qualified more than 7 tenths seconds slower than Vettel at Melbourne, but he set the quickest time in the final round at Malaysia. Then, Vettel crossed at one minute, 34.870 seconds in his Red Bull, just over a 10th of a second quicker than the McLaren. Vettel's team mate Mark Webber claimed third spot on the grid, 0.205 behind Hamilton.It's a repeat of the top-five on the starting grid at Melbourne with McLaren's Jenson Button starting next to Webber on the second row in fourth place with Ferrari's Fernando Alonso behind them in fifth. Watch Video Play Video After getting his run at the World Curling Championships in Canada off to solid start with back to back wins, China's Ji Yan Song was looking to get his rink back on track as they took on France. China, looking to avoid a fifth straight loss that would all but end their hopes of reaching the playoff round. China's Ji got off to a decent start to the game, after allowing France one in the first...his draw for two in the second would give China the lead...but it would be the only time they were in front all game. France would add one in the third, three in the fourth...and roll on to a big 10-3 win. France improves to 5-2, China...now 2-5. Defending champion Beijing Guoan started its season with a visit to Jiangsu. Beijing in green and the guests kept their opponents in check with a strong defensive effort. No goals were scored in the first half. The Lakers looked to make it 10 home court wins in a row, but the game turned physical in the fourth quarter. Four players were ejected. Dirk Nowitzki hit a bucket and drew a foul. He had 27 points and 13 rebound for the night. The Mavs held a second quarter lead. The Lakers' Ron Artest answered. He nailed a wide open three to put L-A back on top. The injured Chinese center surprised everyone by walking without his protective boot at the event. The Rockets turned to a green color scheme to fit the environmental theme, promoting the idea of recycling electronic products in the community. People dropped-off their abandoned devices and electric parts for recycling. Yao brought some NBA personal star power to the happening.
