Kazakhstan wins 19 medal on 1st day of Winter Asiad

Host nation Kazakhstan won 19 medals on the first day of competition at the 7th Asian Winter Games.
Six of them were gold - with the highlight Dimitriy Kosh-kin's winning performance in the 'blue riband'event of the games, the men's downhill. Japan won four gold medals, South Korea three and China picked up one - Wang Chun-li showing nerves of steel to win the women's 7.5 kilometer biathlon event.
At this year's games, held in Kazakhstan's two main cities of Astana and Almaty, more than 11-hundred competitors, from 27 countries and regions, will compete for 65 titles in 11 categories. The last Asian Winter Games were held in 2007 in Chang-chun, China.
