China's Peng Shuai eases into Australian Open second round
Day two of competition at the Australian Open...and China's Peng Shuai and Zhang Shuai in action, hoping to move on to round two. Unfortunately, Zhang Shuai was knocked in a straight sets defeat to Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic. Meanwhile Peng Shuai, hoping for a better fate as she was taking on Ukraine's Kateryna Bondarenko.
And Peng Shuai would get her run at the Australian Open off to a rough beginning, Bondarenko got off to a great start against the Chinese, owning the first set. The Ukrainian taking it 6-2.
But Peng Shuai found her rhythm in the second set.
Peng, would turn things around and race out to a big lead in the set two...and would continue her strong play to take the second 6-3 to force this affair to a deciding third set.
And the third set...would turn into a marathon.
The two players, tied at 6...played a great point with Peng at advantage. This point went back and forth, before Peng was able to secure a 7-6 lead thanks to a great backhand winner.
Peng Shuai then took the momentum to seal the set 8-6, and with it a place in the second round.
Peng Shuai said, "I told myself to hold on during the match and to earn the points one by one. Actually, while playing I heard a lot of fans supporting me. So, I said to myself, don't give up."

Ivanovic upset by akarova
The day's biggest upset may go to Serbian Ana Ivanovic, when the nineteenth seed was outlasted by Russian Ekaterina Makarova in the final match of the day 3-6 6-4 10-8 in a 167-minute contest.
Radwanska Books books place in 2nd round
A weird incident happened on the second day competition, 12th seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland battling against Japan's Kimiko Date Krumm. Radwanska broke her racket during a return, with half of it flying away.
This match, very hard fought, lasting two and a half hours, Radwanska finally won the match 6-4 4-6 7-5 to book her place in the next round.
Nadal easily reaches 2nd round
One the men's side. Rafa Nadal took on Brazilian Marcos Daniel. Nadal surrendered just four points in a first-set 6-love blanking lasting 19 minutes at Melbourne Park.
The Brazilian didn't given up though in the second set, and at one time held four break points. But Nadal successfully held his serve and raced out to a 5-0 lead, when the Brazalian retired, citing a left knee injury, giving Nadal a place in the second round.
Murray eases through after Beck retires
Andy Murray was taking on Slovakian Karol Beck. Murray takes the first set 6-3...and continued his strong play in the second.
Murray..rolling over his Slovakian opponent easily took the second set 6-1.
Murray, the runner-up last year in Melbourne then booked his place in the second round when Beck retired with a shoulder injury with the Briton leading 4-2 in the third set.
