He underwent some extensive training in preparation for next year's London Olympics, and along with his strength training, the former world champion also tested out his problematic achilles tendon. Liu Xiang injured his achilles tendon in 2008 and was unable to race at the Beijing Olympics. Since then, he has undergone various types of treatment to try to regain the form that earned him Olympic gold in 2004. On his latest trip to America, Liu emphasized increasing his strength, along with continuing to work on his altered starting technique, which has seen him hit the first hurdle in fewer steps.
