The Russian pair won the mixed doubles match in straight sets, to take a 1-0 lead. Despite losing the mixed doubles opener to Russia, Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei soon demonstrated exactly why he is the top-ranked player in the world as he blasted Russia's out-classed Ivan Sozonov 21-9, 21-10 in 26 minutes. He tied it at 1-all for Malaysia.
In women's singles, Tee Jing Yi became the newly pointed top-ranked player in Malaysia. The 19-year-old dominated the match and beat her opponent Anastasia Prokopenko in straight sets.
The men's pair of Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong were too good for their opponents and won 3-0. Malaysia won 4-1 and now faces Indonesia on Tuesday.
