Months after winning the right to stage footballs World Cup in 2022, Doha is now entertaining the International Olympic Committee.

The IOCs biennial World Conference on Sport & The Environment brings together sporting federations, academics and athletes with the single aim of using sport to positively impact on the environment.

At the business end, organizers of sports events are challenged to come up with strategies that provide environmental legacies, while at the individual level, the IOC wants athletes to sell the message of environmental responsibility to a younger audience...

With its heavy reliance on oil and gas production, Qatar has one of the worlds biggest environmental footprints per head of population but clearly hosting an Olympic Games is one prize they have their sights set on.

While Qatar is host of the event, the conference is a global event carrying a long distance message from 4th grade children at the Western Academy of Beijing...

Watch Video Play Video A long-awaited moment for China at the Asian Winter Games. It happened during a gold medal run in the women's 1500 meters speed skating event. Chinese skater Wang Fei raced her way into the record books. She set a new Asian mark for the 1500 metres, crossing the line at 1 minute 58.37 seconds. It was 1-and-a-half seconds under the previous record time she set four years ago. South Korean Noh Seonyeong took second place. The bronze went to Japanese skater Kodaira Nao.
