NHL: Ducks defeat Stars 4-3 in over-time

A Western Conference battle between Anaheim and Dallas on Wednesday. The Ducks and Stars would go down to the final five seconds of regulation and beyond in one of the most dramatic finishes of the season so far.

After two periods they were tied 1-1...but Dallas broke the deadlock four and a half minutes into the third. Loui Eriksson tapped home and the Stars went up 2-1.

But the lead would not last. Corey Perry struck back for the Ducks. Perry's 40th goal of the season tied him with Daniel Sedin for second in the NHL behind Steve Stamkos.

Dallas went back in front nine minutes later. Trevor Daley's shot bounced through Anaheim goalie Ray Emery. The Stars held a 3-2 lead with a little over six and half minutes to go.

Now, at the end of regulation...10 seconds left on the clock...Saku Koivu tried a last shot for Anaheim. It deflected over to an open Teemu Selanne and the Finnish Flash connected with 5 seconds to go. Selanne scored his 629th career NHL goal and sent the game to overtime. Another look shows the puck bouncing through the Dallas defenders directly to Selanne...ready and waiting for the game-tying goal.

The Ducks went into the O-T with the momentum and came out with the victory. Cam Fowler stepped up for the game winner. Anaheim beats Dallas 4-3. The victory pushes the eighth-place Ducks one point ahead of the Stars in the Western Conference.

Two days after joining his wife for the birth of their third child, Daniel Sedin re-joined his Vancouver Canuck teammates to face the Detroit Red Wings.

The game remained scoreless into the second period. Sedin broke through with a quick-hitting score. The Canucks led 1-0.

Sedin struck again in the third period. He reached the 40 goal mark for the first time in his career.

Deroit got a goal back just over two minutes later. Jiri Hudler cut the Vancouver lead in half. But the Wings charge stopped right there. The Canucks won the game 2-1.
